Shilpgram was inaugurated by Rajiv Gandhi in 1989. If you want to see the true colours of Rajasthan then you must visit Shilpgram as it showcases the art, craft and culture of Mewar with complete authenticity. It is situated 3 km to the west of the city of Udaipur.
It is surrounded by the Aravalli hills and it depicts the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of Rajasthan. It also has an open-air Amphitheatre where one can see the performance of folk dances of different states of India during festival.
If you are interested in learning the art and craft of Rajasthan, you can join the workshops that are structured to demonstrate the method. Shilpdarshan is a continuing activity at Shilpgram in which traditional performing artists and craftsmen are used to draw from the interior villages of the member states.
They are regularly invited to exhibit their skill and to demonstrate their crafts and sell their works in order to have direct access to the buyers. This programme has been initiated with an aim to encourage rural craftsmen and performers.
Shilpgram Festival (During last 10 days of December)
Shilpgram festival is an annual fair held during the last 10 days of December i.e. 21 December to 31 December it is organized to promote art and craft of Rajasthan. It is a perfect destination to try out the handwoven clothes, embroideries, mirror works and handicrafts.
The handwoven clothes and camel leather items grab the major attention of visitors in this fair. Not only shopping but the local food stalls here are amazing. This fair has something for everyone kids can enjoy the various swings and camel ride at this place.
You can also enjoy the dance shows while sitting in the open amphitheatre at night. Basically this fair is organized to promote and revive the local art and dying culture of Rajasthan.

The place has a rough and hilly path so it is preferable to wear flats and covered footwear. And visit in the evening.
