With the evolution in lifestyle, the structure of the families has also been contracted. Joint families are converted into nuclear families with parents and kids. The space for the grandparents or senior citizens hardly exists where the need for privacy and own desires is the priority.
Old age homes have been the residents for the senior citizens who are abandoned or choose to live separated from kids in to maintain the gap. It’s also defined as retired homes or nursing homes. In India there are a total of 728 old age homes, out of which 325 are free of cost, 95 are on pay basis and 116 have both free as well as paid facilities.
In Udaipur also there are few old age homes providing shelter to the senior age groups who either choose to live or are forced to live depending on the situation.
Anand Vruddhashram(old age home)
The foundation was set up by Tara Sansthan who initially organized eye check-ups for the poor section of the society in the outskirts area. Later they observed the requirement of old age homes for the elders who have lost all possible hopes of getting help.
Today Anand Vruddhashram is a shelter for 150 senior citizens. The services are entirely free including meals, ventilated rooms, dormitory rooms, the temple for religious activities, and washing machines.
Regular health check-ups are conducted to cope with medical issues. The group of seniors staying at the Vruddhashram enjoy a productive time by playing games, walking, chanting bhajans, celebrating festivals, and visitors gathering.
